The dog lost all chance of being discovered when it became stuck at the bottom of the sewer.
A small dog ‘s life was changed forever after a group of urban artists discovered it while they were touring some of the lesser-known corners of the Oakland, California (USA) landscape.
Michael Vargas is one of those people who loves to discover and document the hidden and forgotten things that are not always contemplated by the common man .
Puppy stuck in storm drain with no hope of anyone finding it
It was on one of those adventures that he met an adorable little dog that ended up winning his heart.
While exploring a canal near his home in Oakland , Vargas and his companions decided to take a break and take some pictures of the graffiti that covers much of the canal’s walls.
Although it was one more stop, they were far from imagining that they would save a life .
“We were hanging out for a second when I heard my girlfriend say, ‘Holy crap! A dog!’ I thought, ‘A dog?’ I was shocked. I could not believe it. In this little side drain area, there was this little white dog. He was trapped,” Vargas said.
The young man knew that he had to do something to save the furry, otherwise it would be difficult for him to survive on his own . In this regard, Vargas commented:
“My heart just sank. I thought, ‘I can’t leave this dog here. If we leave this dog, he will die.
Although it was not easy to gain the puppy’s trust, Vargas and his friends did not give up, it took about an hour for the puppy to get close enough and they managed to catch up with it .
“He was so scared of us. I think he was so confused and weak,” Vargas said.
To date it is unknown how the puppy managed to reach this narrow place, but Vargas is grateful for having been in the right place and at the right time to be able to rescue him, otherwise the puppy would not have survived much longer.
When he was transferred to the vet, they carried out all the corresponding tests, he required a series of treatments that Vargas happily paid for.
The puppy was very weak, it is possible that it would not have survived if they had not found it.
After a more detailed diagnosis, the vet informed Vargas that the puppy had been the victim of unfair causes in the past . The artist commented on it:
“The doctor speculated that he may have been abused. There was no chip or identification. We call shelters. We checked lost and found, but found nothing.”
No one was interested in the puppy, so he decided to give it a name himself and make it a special member of his family.
The furry boy was named Rusty, and since then, he has been considered the most valuable treasure for Vargas, who has been an urban explorer for years and has never been through a similar situation before. Finally, Vargas added:
“After all, we decided to love him. He is ours. He is attached to me. I don’t know what his past was, but I’m trying to improve his future. I’ve been doing this for 12 years, and this is the craziest adventure I’ve had yet. I have never saved a life. Getting their love in return is so rewarding.”
Vargas is extremely grateful for all the loving and kind words he has received. As soon as Rusty is fully vaccinated, he will join your adventure party .
Providing a second chance is possible if we are willing to open our hearts without focusing on the puppy’s past.
